The Story of the RKO Theater

Here's a quick story I thought everyone would be interested in; about the RKO theater in Flushing, NY. If anyone has ever been to Main Street, you've definitely seen the gigantic building sitting at the intersection of Northern Blvd. and Main Street. This building used to be a grand movie theater with beautiful staircases showing double features and a staple place to flock to the weekends. Well, for many years it has been rundown, because the owner let it go to shit without any thoughts of trying to make it something nice for the community. We, the crew of Afghan Hound, really wanted to use it for the ending of our film and we were rejected before we could say "please" or even offer some money. They even denied the Discovery Channel! So, the good news out of this is that there is an organization that is trying to save it and make it a land mark in Flushing, but alas, nothing has come of it yet. Hmmm.... I feel like I keep getting involved in community conflicts that can never be solved (www.TheLostSpirits.com). Sorry, just had to plug my documentary for second.

So, what do you guys think? Should we put it in the film anyway?! It's historical, it must be incorporated into a Queens story!!

  1. One day, with the whole crew and the cameras, we'll swing by and we'll find the door "accidentally" left open. Then, we'll say "hey! why not?"
